C02 laser resurfacing uses pulses of laser light. These beams penetrate the skin’s surface, where water in the skin cells absorbs them.When this happens, the epidermis, or superficial layer of your skin, is vaporized. The dermis, or middle layer, heats up, stimulating the growth of new collagen fibers. Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing is technically a non-surgical facelift that is used for skin rejuvenation. It is generally performed on the face, neck, hands, and chest.

As the name itself suggests, this treatment is done using carbon-di-oxide gas, it also contains Nitrogen and Hydrogen though. The treatment generally takes half an hour.

Anesthesia is applied topically on the targeted area before the CO2 laser treatment that is closely administered by our staff so that the patient doesn’t face discomfort. There are constant wave lasers with supremely high energy levels, generally of the infrared range wavelength.

This treatment is normally adapted for acne scars treatment. The laser beams break down the connective tissue. The scarred ones get broken down and newer and smoother skin takes its place. In other words, the skin is ‘resurfaced’ or replaced with a fresher and newer one. This not just helps in scar removal but also for wrinkle removal, stretch mark removal, and skin tightening.

The carbon dioxide laser (CO2 laser) was one of the earliest gas lasers to be developed (invented by Kumar Patel of Bell Labs in 1964, and is still one of the most useful. Carbon dioxide lasers are the highest-power continuous wave lasers that are currently available. They are also quite efficient: the ratio of output power to pump power can be as large as 20%. The CO2 laser produces a beam of infrared light with the principal wavelength bands centering around 9.4 and 10.6 micro meters. With fractional laser resurfacing the laser beam is broken up or fractionated into many small micro beams which are separated so that when they strike the skin surface small areas of the skin between the beams are not hit by the laser and left intact. These small areas of untreated skin promote a much more rapid recovery and healing with less risk of complications. The small areas treated by the fractional micro beams, called micro treatment zones, cause sufficient laser injury to promote new collagen production and resultant facial skin rejuvenation.
